Wir Hier - God's Entertainment
Citizenship functions like a democratic knighthood: it determines who belongs and who remains excluded. It decides who is considered politically “full-fledged” and who, despite being physically present, is meant to remain politically invisible.
Under the title ‘D, E, M, O, K, R, A, T, I and E.’, the Vienna-based collective God’s Entertainment addresses the right to participation and co-determination in a democratic society. Situated both in the heart of the city — Resselpark — and in cooperation with the Volkskundemuseum at the decentralized Otto Wagner Areal, the collective stages an alternative election campaign: ten posters, ten letters, ten people.
Each letter of the word “DEMOKRATIE” (eng. democracy) stands for a person who tells a story about everyday life, exclusion, and belonging. Through QR codes, portraits and stories open up, revealing the lives of people living in Vienna who are not allowed to vote politically — even though they have long been part of the city’s social life.
‘Wir Hier’ is a series of artistic interventions in public space that places the focus on togetherness in a (urban) society — and, more specifically, in Vienna.
