Wandertag #5
Connections and boundaries between digital and analogue bodies lay at the core of Christiane Peschek’s artistic work. Through her work she examines the potential of digital selfies as a form of self-care, tests how our extended virtual existences can experience relaxation in so-called post-body spas and creates intimate, performative situations for physical regeneration.
For Wandertag, Christiane Peschek uses the interior and exterior of the Sargfabrik as a stage. Outdoor a series of augmented reality sculptures interweave with Sargfabrik’s architecture. Here digital images of fluid, billowing bodies with skin- and bone-like shapes are brought to life on the viewer's cell phone.
In contrast to the exterior, Peschek turns the interior of the Sargfabrik bathhouse into a physical one-day, multi-sensory spa experience away from our digital existence. Through a comprehensive transformation of the inner space, she creates an oasis with amorphous sculptures that spray fine mists of relaxation essences, a basin with sound waves and water pearls that caress the bodies of the visitors.
Wandertag is a project series highlighting solo presentations in public space. Whether an industrial area, the shop window of a car dealer, a house facade or a public observatory - each location offers a new approach to the artistic practice of the invited artists as well as unusual views of Vienna. Each Wandertag is accompanied by its own walking route that visitors can follow either on guided tours or on their own.
