Public Space

Often, the underlying threads of one’s own work only become visible in retrospect. More than twenty years ago, I chose 'Public Space as a Critical Site' as the topic of my diploma thesis. Not yet knowing that I would later become a curator working with and shaping public space, the research already addressed questions that continue to shape my curatorial practice today: How public are public spaces? How are urban public spaces produced, regulated, and used?

Building on this research, my current curatorial approach explores how artists respond to the social, political, and architectural conditions of a site, and how artistic interventions can activate, challenge, or reframe the spatial narratives of urban environments. Important layers of my projects are audience engagement and community interaction. I am interested in how artistic projects can create dialogue with local communities, urban publics, and temporary users of the space.
